The Price of Freedom: Lech Walesa and Liu Xiaobo
Today I’ve got a picture from the past (not far past) in my mind. On December 13th, 1981 the martial law had been declared in Poland. All leaders and activists of Polish “Solidarity”, including Lech Walesa and other democratic organizations were arrested and interned in the night. Those political prisons were released after general amnesty in 1986. December 1981 was extremely cold and snowy. Tanks and soldiers occupied the streets and curfew had been imposed. Army took control over the country.
